Say hello to the bold and beautiful spot-stars of the isopod world — Orange Dalmatians!
These vibrant isopods combine bright orange coloration with striking black speckles, creating one of the most visually exciting morphs in the hobby. Tough, fast, and endlessly active, they are perfect for both beginners and collectors alike.
Origins & Appearance
Porcellio scaber originates from Europe but has spread worldwide due to its incredible adaptability. The “Orange Dalmatian” morph displays a vivid orange body covered in contrasting dark spots, giving it its iconic dalmatian-like pattern. Adults grow to about 1.5–2 cm.
Behaviour & Habitat
These isopods are highly active, fast-moving, and surface-dwelling, making them very entertaining to watch. They prefer drier conditions than Cubaris species, with good airflow and a small moist area for hydration. Provide cork bark, leaf litter, and textured surfaces for climbing and hiding.
Diet & Care
Orange Dalmatians are powerful clean-up crew members, feeding on leaf litter, rotting wood, vegetables, calcium sources, and protein foods. They breed rapidly and are very forgiving, thriving in a wide range of setups.
